Chp: 3-B Aunts and Uncles Maj. Thomas P. Nelson USAF ret. sat in one of the private reading rooms provided by the library of the University of Mikatonic. Before him sat open a large leather and iron bound tome; written shortly after Napoleon’s army returned from Egypt. It didn’t strike him as odd in the least that it was a translation into French from ancient Greek, and he was only mildly amused that it was done by a lowly sergeant of the French army who went mad soon after he was finished. Looking down at his watch he noticed it was well after two in the morning he had been he for more than four hours. Closing and relatching the great book and gathering the notes he had made, he walked over to the closed door and pushed the button beside it. After a short wait he saw through the thick glass four rather large men in security uniforms of the University. The shortest one approached the glass and raised his hand to the side of the door and he heard the familiar crack of an intercom. “Have you taken notes?” Maj. Nelson held up the large folder of hand written notes. “Please place them on the table, along with the pencils you were given.” The guard had a voice that carried the authority of the ruling board of directors for the University and was to be obeyed. Once that was done the intercom cracked again. “Please remove your coat and stand facing the wall.” Again nothing to do but comply with the guards request. After he heard the door being opened and three of the guards walk in, with military drill like precision he was frisked by one while being covered by the other two who were armed with pepper spray, and stun guns. Throughout the entire ordeal he was asked several questions; was he nauseous, was he dizzy, any strange voices, headaches, etc.etc. After he was checked, his over coat was checked and returned to him along with his notes. One of the inside guards spoke into his radio and the guard who remained in the hallway unlocked and opened the door. Escorted through past several more doors they paused, as there seemed to be a fight in progress inside one of the rooms. Looking over the guard who stood by this door spoke to the leader of Nelson’s own guards. “Joe can you spare me to of your boys, my guys are having trouble getting the straitjacket on.” “Yea sure, Charlie, Roger give the good lieutenant a hand here.” After that brief exchange they moved on eventually walking across the main gallery to the exits. Quickly unlocking the door and an even quicker goodnight Maj. Nelson was in his rented car on his way to his hotel as late as it was he had phone calls to make before he could sleep. 2:10PM Nerima, Tokyo Ranma dropped in front of the Nekohanten and looked around and noticed Shampoo’s delivery bike was gone. He quickly crossed the street and entered the restaurant. The first thing that put him on guard was that it was a bit to quiet here for this time of day. The second thing was that the few customers that were sitting were also holy men (and woman, there was one shrine maiden.) of one sort or another. In fact the only people who didn’t dress like a priest or monk were three foreigners who stopped talking and were watching him as he made his way over to the kitchen counter. “Yo, Cologne I’m here.” He shouted into the kitchen area, which seemed empty. “Ah… Ranma come into the kitchen and make us some tea I’ll be out in a moment.” The old woman’s voice came from the pantry. Ranma hopped over the counter and started the water. After a few more minutes the old woman emerged from the pantry wiping her hands in her apron. “Ranma when the tea is ready please bring it out, some colleagues wish to meet you.” She said pogoing out the kitchen door. was the only thought that ran through his head. As he waited for the tea he listened to the sounds of some tables being pushed together. When he closed his eyes and tried to block out the annoying noise he started to hear something else. It was metallic, sreeching, somehow hollow. Ranma felt himself start to get disorientated and then he heard the voices. He looked about him and saw strange faces of men and women in strange uniforms looking at him. And yet there was something not so strange about them as if he was comfortable being with them. One woman who looked disturbingly like his female side and wearing a uniform with silver braiding on the cuffs shining in sharp contrast to her dark blue jacket. Around her waist was a black belt over a yellow/gold sash, on one side dangled a sword in its scabbard, and on the other was a holster. Another man dressed the same as the woman but with bronze braiding on his cuffs was speaking to him. “Your Grace we have grappled with the Jovian flag ship,” the man was smiling ear to ear “Sire they are asking for terms.” Just then the woman turned to him and smiled at him. “You’ve done it big brother, Jupiter’s fleet had no chance our brothers’ death has been avenged.” “My Lord are you alright?” He felt himself becoming lightheaded and than a blinding white pain, and some god-awful stink. “Ranma speak to me boy, are you alright?” He blinked his eyes and saw that it was Cologne who was speaking to him. Dumbly he nodded his head, and then shook it trying to clear it. “Can you get up, boy” “I…I don’t know.” He answered her not wanting to stand up and possibly pass out again. “That’s alright Ranma you just lay your head back in Kyoko’s lap and rest,” she had added with a nasty smirk “I don’t think she minds at all.” “Why not in the slightest Elder Cologne.” Ranma looked up and saw the smiling beautiful face of the shrine maiden looking back at him, as she gently stroked his hair. Needless to say he was up and in the dinning room sipping tea. Cologne and the girl called Kyoko came out soon after carrying more food and drinks. “Now Ranma what happened in the kitchen?” The old woman asked with some concern. Ranma took a deep breath and started to tell them, but as he spoke he noticed several people were either writing notes or had pulled out mini-tape recorders. And from time to time one person would stop him and ask a question. Cologne would introduce them as they spoke up. Two of the foreigners were from America. They were Dr. Davion and Dr. Marik an anthropologist and an archaeologist. The third was Dr. Steiner from Austria. He had already met Kyoko the shrine maiden; the two Shinto priests were Mr. Iragashi, and Mr. Kondo. The small Chinese monk was simply brother Lao. After he was done answering the questions about his fainting spell and vision from the kitchen they asked about why he had asked Cologne about the title of a certain book. It worried him a little that no one there would say it’s name, and when he mentioned it came to him in a dream nothing would satisfy any of them until they heard all about it. “Ranma please trust us and tell us every thing you remember, felt, anything at all.” Dr. Steiner urged. “Alright doc but I’m tellen ya it was damn weird.” Flash back to the dream Ranma sat behind a large hand crafted desk in his private study, his refuge from sort of duties. It was always quiet here he could come in troubled and come out with answers. Behind him standing open were large doors that he knew lead out to a large stone balcony. He felt the cool night breeze and it reminded him of some thing he couldn’t quite put his finger on, almost as if something was holding him back. He looked back at his desk; yes he was sure it was his it seemed to familiar to him. Sitting on top was a computer of some kind and a very large book. When he looked at the book he shuddered and knew he should destroy it, but it also called to him. If he should keep it and study it then perhaps the kingdoms would be saved. The immense power this one book contained might protect all that he loved. He looked down to a letter that he had been holding and know what it said; written by the woman he loved so far away on earth with her goddess. Please … destroy the book. That’s what she had written, how could he deny her, he would see to it the foul tome was destroyed. Picking up the massive book he placed it into a wall safe for the time being. He had to take a trip to see to his brother’s kingdom while he was away. He was left in charge while the rest of his family went to the capital for a celebration, which his people would also celebrate. Back to normal “Well that was about it.” Ranma said feeling somewhat embarrassed. “You did just fine boy.” Cologne spoke patting him on the shoulder. “Ranma I think we all have one big question,” Mr. Kondo sat with his hands folded before him letting a small cassette recorder do the work. “How did you know what the book was called?” “Um…well to be honest I think it told me.” He said scatching the back of his head. He was not really prepared for the complete silence that came over the room. “Oh yea, you know that letter I mentioned,” at the general nod to continue. “Well every time I think about it I think about Kasumi Tendo.” Cologne just groaned and put her head into her hand, if that girl threw her hat into the ring Shampoo might as well pack and go home. Juban shopping district 2:10 PM Kasumi and Usagi were having the time of their lives. First Nodoka took them both out to lunch, during which she told them some very funny and highly embarrassing stories about Ranma when he was just a little boy. And then it was off shopping to buy Kasumi a new dress for the date with Ranma, they were currently in their third store and Kasumi was in the dressing room when Usagi knocked. “Kasumi, auntie wants you to try this one.” “ Alright.” She reached out handing the younger girl a few discarded choices and taking the new selection. “Kasumi, can I ask you a question?” “Of course, just come in I need you to zip me up.” Usagi hung the dresses she was holding on a hook and entered the room. “Well what was your question?” Kasumi asked holding her hair out of the way of the zipper. “Sorry I was just looking at the dress it looks absolutely beautiful on you.” The girl said in complete awe. “Do you really think so?” Kasumi asked with an edge of concern in her voice. “Kasumi the only two reasons not to get that dress is one Ranma may pass out when he sees you in it, and two he might be to busy fighting off the other guys to enjoy the date.” She said with a whistled catcall that made Kasumi blush. Looking again into the mirror and seeing the form fitting green silk, Chinese style dress with golden dragon embroidery. She nodded her head once this was the one. Looking back to Usagi. “Usagi what was your question?” “I was just wondering, did you ever think Ranma would ask you out?” “That’s a good question,” she thought a little and then answered. “When Ranma first came to live with my family Nabiki and I pushed him off on Akane. By the end of the second day I thought I might have made a mistake. By the end of the week I was sure I made a mistake. But no I didn’t think he would ever ask me out, but I always hoped.” “I’m so happy for the both of you, you each deserve the best.” Usagi gave the older girl a hug. “Now please get auntie and we’ll show her what we picked.” Kasumi said after braking the hug. “Alright” After Usagi left Kasumi looked back into the mirror and put her palms out within an inch of touching the smooth surface. And with a slight whisper called out. “Lady Gaia can you hear my call.” “Yes my daughter. What troubles you.” An image of a beautiful woman appeared in the mirror. A face that many men imagin angles to have, and long full blond hair that had wild flowers braided into it. She wore a simple Forrest green dress. “Mother if I fall in love will I still be able to take care of your children.” “Of course daughter if I thought you would never fall in love because of this burden, I would not have allowed it. Listen child I know of whom you speak. And it pleases me that you have found the one you lost so long ago.” “Thank you Mother Gaia, you have laid to rest my fear.” Kasumi breathed a sigh of relief. “Daughter before I leave you beware of many different evils that are awakening, and some few that in your mind may seem as evil and are not.” The woman smiled at Kasumi. “I must leave you now, I give you all my love carry it to all who need it.” After the image of Gaia faded Kasumi heard Usagi and Nodoka’s voices, stepping out of the dressing room she quickly modeled the dress. In due course the dress was paid for and the trio were off to a shoe store, and then to buy accessories. Downtown Tokyo 2:00PM Lynn Suzuki wasn’t someone who led what most would call a normal or average life. But this was pushing it even for her. Apparently the two women before her believed her to be some reincarnation of a princess of Saturn. And that the red haired one was the reincarnated sister. “I don’t think she believes us Michuru.” Nene had leaned over and whispered. Michuru just let out a forlorn sigh. “I guess there is just no helping it,” she muttered to her self and looking back up at Lynn. “I assume you’ve heard of the sailor scouts, correct.” “As a matter of fact I have heard quite a few things.” “Well I’m Sailor Neptune, and I can prove it if you wish.” “That’s all well and good but it proves nothing other than you being a scout,” she paused for a moment before continuing. “Who seems to jump around fighting evil in a quite immodest state of dress.” Michuru’s left eye started to twitch as Nene started to giggle. “Please Ms.Suzuki what will it take for you to come with us?” “Well I think I shall come along with you, if for nothing but to cure this curiosity that you stirred up.” She had stood and began putting Ga-San into its purple silk wrapping. “You’ll have to excuse me I need to call my dear friend, and tell her I shan’t be home for supper.” As the petit girl left to use the kitchen phone, Nene leaned over and spoke quietly to Michuru. “Hey I just remembered something else about the family.” Michuru looked at Nene “I hope it’s good news.” She glanced back to the kitchen. “Your sister in there almost didn’t come with us.” “Well Setsuna went to get the oldest and he’s powerful but easy to get along with and always had a strong sense of duty.” Nene looked toward the kitchen where Lynn had yet to reappear. “And we came here to get Lynn, which turned out to be not so difficult. The aqua haired girl just shrugged her shoulders “ So what.” “I was just thinking that she seems to want the rest of us on board before she tries to recruit our last brother.” “Is he dangerous.” “Very.” “Great.” Michuru looked up just as Lynn walked back in carrying her sword over her shoulder. “I’m ready, shall we go.” The two other women stood and nodded. Juban Ward 2:10PM Setsuna stopped Haruka in the hallway. When the shorter scout turned to her Setsuna motioned for he to be quiet. When they heard Hotaru and Kenshin talking behind her bedroom door, Setsuna spoke just above a whisper. “I know you have many questions, but now is not the time.” She held up her hand to stop any questions before they could form. “Haruka please listen to me I’ve done to much time travel and I need to get back to the gate. Michuru will return soon with two more of Hotaru’s sisters. Between the four of them they may figure out who the last brother is. Listen to me do not let them go after him until I return. Have the other scouts meet here at four and I’ll tell everyone all I know at once. If you can’t get Usagi I’ll deal with her my self.” She paused and looked towards the living room. “Try and keep those others out of trouble until I can get them back without alienating Kenshin.” “Alright Setsuna, you got it.” With a brief flash the older woman was gone. Haruka turned and continued into the living room. Picking up the remote she turned on the television, which promptly caught the attention of the boy, and chicken headed man. Haruka glanced over at the two women, “Were having guests tonight, think you to can give me a hand in the kitchen.” Both women looked at each other and moved to the kitchen. Juban Ward 3:30PM Ranma walked up the steps of his home carrying a bouquet of flowers he had picked up for Kasumi. As he walked in he heard voices from his mother’s room and guessed they were checking out whatever the hell it was they bought. Once in the kitchen he put the flowers in the fridge. And made his way to his room. Picking up his phone he dialed his best friends number. “Hi, Hotaru it’s me Ranma.” #Hi, there loverboy# “I guess you heard, huh” #Of course I heard, at first I thought you were just sick or something.# “Yea well you know me, hey do you remember the name of that fancy restaurant we passed by not so long ago.” #Umm… yea it was Richenda’s# “That’s the name, for the life of me I just couldn’t think of it” #Hey Ranma guess who’s here. # “Hmm… I don’t know Barney the dinosaur, after all I know how big a fan you are.” #Ranma that picture was taken years ago so cut it out, this is serious. # “Alright jeez, listen I really have no clue, who.” #My oldest brother, and my two older sisters, and as soon as we find my last brother; my whole family will be together again. # “Oh my God I’m so happy for you.” #Thanks Ranma. # After they had hung up the phone Ranma dialed the restaurant and lucked out and got reservations for seven-thirty. Leaving his room he saw his mother. “Mom, I made reservations for seven-thirty, let Kasumi know.” “Of course dear, oh Ranma a package came for you today from your father.” “The old man sent me something.” “Yes dear it’s on the dinning room table, and here is the letter that came with it.” Taking the letter he opened it and started to read as he absently walked to the dinning room. Son, This is it; we are nearly free of the master. In our travels Soun and I discovered an ancient book that the master seemed terrified of it must hold some secret we can hold over that evil little pygmy. You must hide it so that we can study it when we return. Oh happy day. Your Father As he read he felt his heart starting to pound, and he couldn’t help but rush to the table and the book. It was there it was the same size and everything. Even from under the plain brown paper he could feel the evil presence seeping out. Picking the book up he ran into his room, spinning Usagi around as the air blasted past her. “How rude!” Once in his room he tore the package open and it was there the book from his dream. He shakily dialed a number. “Hello Cologne.” #What can I do for you Ranma. # “It’s here, the book it’s here.” #What do you mean it’s here. # “The old man sent it here Tendo and the old man think they can destroy the freak with it. They found it somewhere scared the freak with it and sent it to me to hold it for them.” #Those damn fools. # Alright moving right along this is the second part of chapter three.
